What is the VIMBY nation?

The VIMBY nation is a network of young, creative filmmakers around the country who we are empowering and giving a chance to show off their talents. We are challenging these Preditors (Producer, Shooter, Editors) to help us uncover what's happening in backyards all over America.

What is a preditor?

No need to call Chris Hanson. Preditor is a new term that's thrown around video production these days. It stands for producer, shooter, editor. Our preditors are simply all-in-one filmmakers that can produce, shoot, and edit segments and deliver them in a timely manner.

What cities does VIMBY produce content for?

Currently, we are looking for content from Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa, and Washington, D.C.

Can I upload content to the site?

In the coming months, you will be able to upload videos and photos to the site personally to show people the best of core young culture where you live. Right now, users cannot upload videos or photos to the site personally. Every video you see on the site now is produced by the VIMBY nation. Is VIMBY hiring photographers as well as filmmakers?

We're not hiring photographers, but we would love for you to share your photos with us. If you want the VIMBY audience to see your talent, send us your work.

We are seeking a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 25 picture photo albums in and around 800 x 600 pixels and less than 2 MB each. Make sure your photos fit into one of our genres.

What if I don't live in one of the cities listed on your site?

All of our videos and photos are made for the nation as a whole. We are tapping into core cultures and categories. Our skate videos or music segments from Orlando will appeal to the viewer in Las Vegas.

What's the purpose of the backyards?

VIMBY videos and photos are meant to appeal to enthusiasts from the category all over the nation. However, if you live in one of our seventeen backyards, all of your calendars and message boards are local to your area.

When will VIMBY come to my backyard?

As viewers like you champion the site and we continue to grow, we will grow beyond the seventeen cities where we are producing content now. Of course, when we launch our user generated channel, we will be looking for video and photos from all over the country.

Will VIMBY feature anybody?

We are all about celebrating real people; in music, action sports, and beyond, we are not looking to just feature the top pros in the category. We want to find the up and comers, the emerging talents in each of our subcultures.

Still, we will not feature just anybody. We screen every subject that our preditors pitch to us to make sure that the person/group/venue/event is relevant to our audience and that they have the skills to be on VIMBY.

Is there a limit to the number of preditors VIMBY will hire?

Yes. The VIMBY nation is an exclusive group. We want our filmmakers to know that we value their talents and ensure that there is constantly work for them at VIMBY. But, as we grow, we will continue to accept the most engaged, creative, and talented applicants that come our way.

What's the point of registering/creating a profile?

VIMBY accounts are free, but you must have a username and account to comment on videos, photos, and blogs, as well as to participate in message boards. Also, in your MyVimby account, you can create personal play lists of your favorite videos and photos.

Is there a different calendar for every genre?

There are calendars for Action Sports, Alternative, Cars, Life, Music, and Nightlife.

Are all the events in my calendar happening in my backyard?

At the top of the calendar is a dropdown menu that allows you to screen just your local events.
